1. So back in Canaan the future looked rough,

                  A                A7           D

Jacob's fam'ly were finding it tough,

                D                 D7           G

for the famine has caught us unprepared,

                  E              E7               A          A7

we are thin, we are ill, we are getting scared.

            D                                   G                   A                 A7             D

It's enough to make anyone weep, we are down to our very last sheep.

                   D                                     A

2. We will starve if we hang around here,

                A                    A7               D

and in Egypt there's food going spare.

                         D                          D7                       G

They've got corn, they've got meat, they've got fruit and drinks,

               E                 E7                     A             A7

and if we have the time we could see the Sphinx.

                  D                       G             A            A7              D

So they fin'lly decided to go off to Egypt to see brother Jo.

                  D                                   A

3. So they all lay before Joseph's feet,

                   A                   A7                  D

“Mighty prince give us something to eat.”

                  D               D7              G

Joseph found it a strain not to laugh because

                E           E7                         A         A7

not a brother among them knew who he was.

                D                                  G             A                    A7          D

I shall now take them all for a ride, after all they have tried fratricide.

    (Joseph : )

          G                           D                           A                       D

I dreamed that in the fields one day, the corn gave me a sign,

       G                  D                         A                                 D

your eleven sheaves of corn all turned and bowed to mine,

          G                    D                        A                             D

I dreamed I saw eleven stars, the sun and moon and sky,

      G                      D                           A                              Dm

bowing down before my star, and now I dream of those vines

4. How do I know where you come from? You could be spies.

    Dm                                Bb        Gm               Dm

telling me that you are hungry, that could be lies.

Bb            C            F          D#

How do I know who you are ?

     Dm                                    Bb               Gm                   F

Why do you think I should help you?  Would you help me ?

    Dm                                   Bb                  Gm          Dm

Why on earth should I believe you? I've no guarantee.
