Bob
Dylan’s dream
G
Am
1. While riding on a train going west,
Am C D
I
fell asleep for to take my rest.
G
C G
I
dreamed a dream that made me sad,
D C
G
concerning myself and the first few friends I had.
G
Am
2.
With half damp eyes I stared to the room,
Am
C D
where my friends and
I spent many an afternoon,
G C G
where we together
weathered many a storm,
D C
G
laughing and singing 'till the early hours of the morn.
G Am
3. By the old wooden stove where our hats were
hung,
Am
C D
our
words were told and our songs were sung,
G C G
we longed for nothing
and were satisfied,
D
C G
joking and talking about the world outside.
G Am
4. With haunted hearts through the heat and
cold,
Am
C D
we never much thought
we could get very old.
G
C G
We thought we could
sit forever in fun,
D C G
and our chances
really were as a million to one.
+ G - D - G - Am - D - G - D -
G - C - G - D - G
G Am
5. As easy it was to tell black from white,
Am C D
it
was all that easy to tell wrong from right,
G C G
and our choices were
few so the thought never hit,
D C G
that
the one road we traveled would ever shatter or split.
G Am
6. Ah, many a year has passed and gone,
Am C D
and many a gamble has
been lost and won,
G C G
and many a road taken
by many a first friend,
D C G - G - D - C - G
and each one I've
never seen again.
G Am
7. I wish, I wish, I wish in vain,
Am C D
that
we could sit simply in that room again,
G
C G
ten thousand dollars
at the drop of a hat,
D C G - D - C - G
I'd give it all
gladly if our lives could be like that.
